St. Patrick's Day in Northern Michigan

St. Patrick's Day gives Northern Michigan a welcome reason to get out in late winter. It is one of the few nights of the year that even off-season bars and restaurants run at full capacity. Traverse City, Petoskey, and Charlevoix all have enough of a pub scene to make it a proper night out, and a handful of communities run charity runs or parades around the date. Themed Brewery Releases

Several Northern Michigan craft breweries put out limited St. Patrick's Day releases, often Irish-style stouts, dry stouts, or green-tinted lagers for the occasion. Short's Brewing, Petoskey Brewing, and others have participated in past years.

Irish-Themed Menus

Restaurants across the region run corned beef and cabbage specials, Irish stew, soda bread, and full Irish-themed menus on and around March 17. Pubs with a kitchen lean in hard. This is also a good night for restaurants that normally might not have a theme to try something different.

Fundraisers & Trivia Nights

Nonprofits and clubs often tie St. Patrick's Day to fundraisers, pub trivia nights, and costume contests. These work well on the weekend closest to the 17th and tend to draw a good mix of locals and visitors still in the area from winter weekends.
