Leelanau Peninsula Wineries

Black Star Farms is the anchor of the Leelanau wine experience — a full estate with a B&B, farm store, and the most complete tasting room experience on the peninsula. Their Sirius sparkling wine and Arcturos Pinot Blanc are benchmark bottles. Shady Lane Cellars in Suttons Bay is a perennial favorite for their sparkling wines made via méthode traditionnelle. Ciccone Vineyard near Suttons Bay is Madonna's father's winery — yes, that Madonna — and the quality reflects genuine investment and care. Bel Lago Winery in Cedar makes reliably excellent Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from estate grapes in a low-key tasting room that rewards lingering.

Pick one peninsula per day — trying to cover both in a single day results in rushed tastings and poor decisions. Most tasting rooms charge a nominal fee (often waived with a purchase). Go on a weekday in September during harvest for the full agricultural experience — you may get to watch crush in progress.
